Tanjay City Knights of Rizal honored Jose Rizal on his 160th birth anniversary

 

The Order of the Knights of Rizal Tanjay City joins the entire Filipino nation today, June 19 in celebrating the 160th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal, the Filipino poet, novelist, physician, revolutionary, martyr, and national hero.

In Rizal essays, “The Philippines, a Century Hence,” and “Letter to the Women of Malolos,” Rizal expressed his concerns about independence from the Spaniards as he foresaw aggression from other foreign colonizers. He decried corruption in governance, social inequities, deterioration of Filipino indigenous culture, as well as passivity and submission to Spanish colonizers. Rizal urged the youth and the women to further their education and learn the Spanish language as well as making them aware of their true worth.





The Order of the Knights of Rizal Tanjay City Chapter leads a simple celebration at Rizal Park. Attended by Sir Gerard Jude Bumanglag, KCR Chapter Commander Tanjay City, Sir Charles L.Tuozo ,KCR chapter commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal Negros Oriental Chapter , Sir Penn Tulabing . Larena ,KCR.Deputy Chapter Commander Negros Oriental Area and Sir Ka Bino Guerrero ,KCR Deputy Chapter Commander Tanjay City Chapter.






It was Tanjayanon Educator and now Chapter Chancellor Sir Cesar Estrope,KCR  suggested   that the celebrating the Rizal Birthday anniversary and Rizal monument anniversary every year in Tanjay City Negros Oriental. 




Tanjay Rizal Park is an urban park located in the Heart of the city. It is almost a hectare in size bounded in the east by Osmeña Street and the City Hall; on the West by Pacifico Street; on the south by Gomez St. and the North by Rizal St.; Immaculate Heart Academy and St. James the Greater Parish Church and Tanjay Church Museum. 


The Rizal monument trace back to 1935 86 years ago. It depicts Rizal in an overcoat holding a book, that represents his novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo.the administration of the late Hon.Crispiniano Limbaga and Hon. Ricardo R. Teves as the town President and Vice President, respectively. It was successfully erected jointly through the efforts of both public and private individuals. Noted prominent Tanjayanon who shared his valuable efforts and raised funds for the realization of the statue and monument with the leadership of the late Spanish Professor. Mariano Calumpang Munoz ( 1889-1957) with the help of Tanjayanon families Calumpang,Munoz, Limbaga, Gonzales, Villacampa and Teves Clan.
