The Flag Disposal Ceremony and 123rd Philippine Independence Day 2021

Dumaguete City, Philippines – The Boy Scouts of the Philippines Negros Oriental- Siquijor Council hold FlagDisposalThe ceremony yesterday June 11, 2021. The flag is a symbol that the Philippines is a sovereign and a free nation.

Queen Marie T. Ferraren our Council Scout Executive, adds that the flag burning complies with Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. It states that worn-out flags shall not be thrown away but shall be solemnly burned to avoid misuse or desecration. The BSP will use the flags in flag-burning rites in other institutions to introduce them to the ceremony and the proper procedure.

Before darkness fell, the old Philippine flags were set on fire, their ashes placed in an urn. After a brief procession, the ashes were buried in BSP Headquarters front lawn, near the flagpole where the flags once flew.

The 90-minute ceremonial rite, dubbed “Huling Pagpupugay sa Watawat ng Pilipinas," is a final salute to the old Philippine flags that silently served the country.

A simple celebration of the 123rd Philippine Independence day with the Theme: Kalayaan Diwan ng Pagkaisa at Paghilom started at 8am with a flag-raising ceremony

Sir Josefino T. Larena Jr. ,KCR the guest speaker of the two events said that the Philippine Independence day is a strong reminder of everything our heroes selflessly dedicated so we could be free. It is also a good time to reflect on the values they imparted and how we can inculcate them in our lives and the future generation. He also remembered our frontlines and all the victims of the COVID 19 virus who passed away. I hope and pray for their family and loved ones.

My only prayer is that we Filipinos will be united and we will fight for this COVID-19 virus and healing for our Motherland. I hope that we do our part in shaping our country’s future for the better. By doing so let’s strive to be ideal Filipinos.
