  Gabriella Mai "Gabbi" Carballo, a proud daughter of the Villanueva Clan of Bais City and Northern Negros, was crowned Miss Universe Philippines Cebu 2024 on December 18 at the prestigious Waterfront Hotel Cebu . Gabbi, who hails from the City of   Guihulngan , is the daughter of   my humble. cousin Ruben William Villegas Carballo. At 26 years old, she is not only a doctor of medicine, having graduated from Cebu Doctors’ University, but also a passionate English teacher. Her pageantry journey began in 2018 when she was crowned Miss Mandaue, and she later went on to win Miss Cebu in 2022. On a sunny day, under a clear blue sky, a significant moment in Dumaguete City's history unfolded as the community gathered to unveil the 8-foot statue of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero.   Eddie Sinco Romero, a national artist for film and broadcast arts, celebrated his 100th birthday on behalf of the people of Dumaguete and the Province of  Negros Oriental . The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Foundation University, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council,National Museum of the Philippines Dumaguete and the City Government of Dumaguete collaborated to arrange the event, which honored Romero's significant contributions to Philippine cinema.  Silliman University (SU) held its 9th Floral Offering Ceremony on August 9, 2024, in honor of Dr. David Sutherland Hibbard and Mrs. Laura Hibbard, the couple who founded Silliman Institute in 1901. The event, organized by the SU Elementary School of the College of Education, was a significant part of the annual Founders Day celebration and took place at the statue of Dr. David Sutherland Hibbard in front of Hibbard Hall. Dr. Margaret Helen Udarbe-Alvarez, SU Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research, led the ceremony alongside department heads, the dean, faculty, staff, students, student leaders, student organizations, and alumni.
