Bayawan City Tawo Tawo 2022

Bayawan City is very well known as the Agricultural Capital of Negros Oriental and  its Tawo-tawo Festival, also known as the Scarecrow Festival, which the people of Bayawan annually celebrate on the 18th of February. Thanksgiving for a good harvest and also to give honor and praise to their city patron saint Santo Tomas Villanueva as they celebrate this festival. The Tawo-tawo Festival focuses on the great difference the tawo-tawo has brought the city after driving the crows away.

Tawo Tawo is an amazing celebration and spectacle highlighted by street dancing and showdown competitions. Empty tin cans and bamboo clappers are utilized in providing for the music. Canned music is not used during street dancing as they prefer live music provided by indigenous materials made into traditional musical instruments.

The indigenous costumes and the choreography of the dances provide for the interest that makes people come back every year to watch the events

I was privileged to be invited to this year’s search for Miss Bayawan and Opening Salvo of Tawo Tawo Festival 2022 and Witness a night of talent and dexterity last valentine’s day, February 14 8 pm, city hayahay square as the 14 official candidates show their Talent and Tawo Tawo Festival Costume competition!
