A tribute to Negrosanon legendary artist

   In May, we lost two great artists in the field of visual arts, and the Negros Oriental art community paid tribute on different social media platforms to remember them. Serafin Miguel Diaz Teves III, Nito to his friends, was a nurse, visual artist, sugar planter, cultural and heritage advocate, social historian of Bais City, and vocal advocate for local cultural preservation. He was born on August 25, 1956 to then Bais City vice mayor and freemason Serafin Montenegro Teves Jr. and Malueca Arnaiz Diaz. Serafin "Nito" Teves III He studied briefly at Silliman University in 1973-1974, before transferring to De La Salle University-Manila where he graduated in 1981. He worked in various capacities in banking, finance, and insurance, before going back to school to earn a nursing degree at Silliman University, graduating in 2007.   The Order of the Knights of Rizal Tanjay City joins the entire Filipino nation today, June 19 in celebrating the 160th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal, the Filipino poet, novelist, physician, revolutionary, martyr, and national hero. Jehu Bumanglag pay tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal  In Rizal essays, “The Philippines, a Century Hence,” and “Letter to the Women of Malolos,” Rizal expressed his concerns about independence from the Spaniards as he foresaw aggression from other foreign colonizers. He decried corruption in governance, social inequities, deterioration of Filipino indigenous culture, as well as passivity and submission to Spanish colonizers. Rizal urged the youth and the women to further their education and learn the Spanish language as well as making them aware of their true worth.   On June 12, the nation will celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence from the Spanish rule. The Flag Disposal Ceremony and 123rd Philippine Independence Day 2021

  Dumaguete City, Philippines – The Boy Scouts of the Philippines Negros Oriental- Siquijor Council hold  Flag ,  Disposal .  The ceremony yesterday June 11, 2021. T he flag is a symbol that the Philippines is a sovereign and a free nation.   Queen Marie T. Ferraren our Council Scout Executive, adds that the flag burning complies with Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. It states that worn-out flags shall not be thrown away but shall be solemnly burned to avoid misuse or desecration. The BSP will use the flags in flag-burning rites in other institutions to introduce them to the ceremony and the proper procedure.   Before darkness fell, the old Philippine flags were set on fire, their ashes placed in an urn.
