The City Government of Dumaguete aims to inspire Dumaguetenons to protect, preserve and promote our Historical significant and outstanding cultural properties in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), concerned public, private, civil society and stakeholders.
The original Presidencia or City hall was built in 1937 by the well-known Architect Juan Marcos de Guzmán Arellano, which gives the structure its historical significance and Heritage to the city.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo ,Vice Mayor Franklin Esmeňa, Ms. Carmencita Mariano & Ms. Raquel Flores of the National Museum and other local dignitaries in the field of heritage & culture attend the public declaration ceremony.
The restoration and conservation projects entitles it to a government granted ,which is covered by the National Museum.To qualifies by our Philippine heritage law , as defined by the Cultural Properties Preservation and Protection Act, the National Museum Act of 1998, and the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.

Raquel Flores of the National Museum hailed the declaration of the Dumaguete Presidencia, the first to be declared as an ICP in Negros Oriental .Meanwhile Silliman University, Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres of St. Paul University Dumaguete declared as Historical Landmarks by the National Historical Commission , and Bacong Church, as National Cultural Treasure.

Jose Victor “JV”Imbo great grandson of the late Mayor Tan Pedro Macias Teves said this is a great legacy building of my great grandfather .Imbo added this structure will provide the next generation a better appreciation of the city’s rich history,tradition & culture . Another great grandson Political Historian Penn T. Larena said this kind of endeavor will saved several significant historical structures in the Province.

The Dumaguete Presidencia is currently undergoing restoration works with a budget of P49 million and will be converted into a branch of the National Museum of the Philippines. It will house artifacts and historical pieces of the city, province and the Central Visayas region.

The National Museum is mandated to declare cultural properties of the Philippines as either Important Cultural Properties or National Cultural Treasures, pursuant to several laws, including Republic Act No. 4846 (Cultural Properties Preservation and Protection Act).
