Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental — The Municipality of Santa Catalina made history on September 30, 2025, as it proudly hosted the first-ever “Bisita Turismo: A Laag-Laag sa Santa Escapade”, a vibrant tourism event spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism Office. The escapade highlighted the town’s rich natural wonders, thrilling adventures, and commitment to eco-tourism, drawing together tourism stakeholders, government officials, media representatives, and adventure seekers.
A Journey Through Nature’s Wonders
The escapade began with the much-anticipated Sicopong River Cruising—a serene glide along calm waters surrounded by lush greenery. Visitors witnessed firsthand the river’s fascinating character: crystal blue and clean on clear days, yet turning brown after heavy rains, reflecting the dynamic rhythm of nature. The experience was paired with a visit to the Caranoche Mangrove Conservation and Eco-tourism Area, emphasizing the town’s dedication to environmental preservation.
The journey continued with a stop at the Santabucks Eco Adventure Park, offering adrenaline-filled activities for thrill-seekers and eco-travelers alike. From high-energy challenges to the scenic canopy walk, participants embraced breathtaking panoramic views, including a majestic sunset that painted the skies over Santa Catalina.
Another highlight was the Wildlife Monkey Sanctuary, where visitors encountered playful primates in their natural habitat. Located near the refreshing Mantabios Waterfalls, this stop provided a unique blend of wildlife appreciation and relaxation amidst cascading waters. Finally, adventurers capped off the day at the Talostos Waterfalls, a hidden paradise that delivered a picture-perfect finale with its pristine scenery and cool waters.
Celebrating Tourism Month in Santa Catalina
The event, held in celebration of Tourism Month, was graced by dignitaries and key partners: Provincial Tourism Board Executive Director Woodrow Maquiling Jr., the Provincial Engineering Office, media partners including GMA7 Correspondent Victor Camion, DYST’s Ronly Peñez, K5 News’ Randy Coronel and Bhoy Pilongo, along with vloggers, accredited DOT tour guides, tour operators, resort owners, and industry partners.
Their presence underscored the collective effort to champion eco-tourism and sustainable travel in Negros Oriental.
Commitment to Tourism and Community
The success of “Bisita Turismo: Santa Escapade” was made possible through the unwavering support of Mayor Peve Obaniana Ligan, who warmly welcomed participants with excellent hospitality and accommodations. Her leadership, together with Tourism Operations Officer Johnette Delegero and the Municipal Tourism Office, ensured a well-organized and memorable event. Gratitude was also extended to the Provincial Tourism staff, particularly Bebsy Lamis and Myla Mae Abellana, for their contributions to the event’s success.
A Milestone in Eco-Tourism
As the first LGU-led event of its kind in Negros Oriental, Santa Catalina’s Bisita Turismo set a precedent for community-based tourism efforts. Beyond showcasing its destinations, the escapade promoted sustainability, cultural pride, and the shared responsibility of protecting natural treasures for future generations.
