St. Paul University Produces First Eagle Scout
The National
Board of Review for Eagle Scout Rank announced that alumnus Kent Niño Sanchez Carmelotes of SPUD qualified for the rank of Eagle Scout after earning 21 merit
badges performing real-life activities relating to First Aid; Citizenship in
the community, in the nation, in the world; Communication, Cooking, Personal
Fitness, Emergency Preparedness/Lifesaving, Environmental Science/Sustainability, Personal Management,Swimming/Hiking/Cycling, Camping,
and Family Life.
Growing up
in Basay, Negros Oriental, Carmelotes had been active in Boy Scouting
activities, showing his leadership skills.
He was also
a recipient of the Scout Jojo Magbanua Leadership & Scouting Award in 2019,
and an active adult leader of BSP-SPUD and the BSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor
Council.
The Scouting
movement at St. Paul Dumaguete was started after World War II by History Prof.
Manuel Mongcopa and Political Science Prof. Celerino Leon Martinez, who later
on became a pioneering Board member of the BSP Negros Oriental-Siquijor
