Thank you so much to Prof. Penn T. Larena ,KCR,MPA
The Team 302nd (Achiever) Brigade joined to commemorate the nationwide celebration of the 79th "Araw ng Kagitingan" on April 9, 2021 and the 123rd death anniversary of Leon Kilat on April 8 held at Camp Leon Kilat, Brgy Sta Cruz Viejo, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
The camp, where the Brigade is situated, is named after one of our Filipino heroes who has been famously tagged by the alias of “Leon Kilat”. He is Lieutenant-General Pantaleón Villegas y Soldi who was born on July 27, 1873 at Bacong, Negros Oriental. His parents were Don Policarpio Villegas and Doña Ursula Soldi. Pantaleon Villegas moved to Cebu in 1895 where he worked in a drugstore, the Botica Antigua. Afterwards, he transferred to work in a bakery prior to joining a circus owned by a “katipunero” that brought him to Manila. Further accounts revealed that on an appointment issued by General Emilio Aguinaldo, Leon Kilat was told to go back to Visayas to lead the rebellion against the Spaniards in Cebu; that was the April 3, 1898 revolution, commonly known as the “Battle of Tres de Abril”.( source : Emil Justimbaste life of leon kilat and Cebu Revolution book).
A wreath laying ceremony was held at the tomb replica of Lieutenant-General Pantaleon Villegas in gratitude for the bravery of all our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the Filipinos to enjoy the independence and sovereignty that we have today. COL LEONARDO I PEÑA (MNSA) PA, the Commander 302IBde, emphasized in his message that all Filipinos should treasure those sacrifices and should work together to safeguard the democracy that we now experience for the benefit of our next generation (302nd Infantry - Achiever Brigade FB page )
