Enrique Villanueva Town in Siquijor @ 95th


New Year Celebration 2020 started a milestone in the history of the island of Siquijor The Municipality of Enrique Villanueva charter day celebration on its 95th and closer to a big event in 2025 for the 100 centennial celebration

Mayor, Gerold V. Pal-ing explained that every start of the year the townfolks gathered to thank God for the wonderful blessings that they received and to honor the great person by the name of the late Governor Enrique Teves Villanueva

Enrique Villanueva is a 5th class municipality in the province of Siquijor. Tracing back to the early part of the American Period when the island was part of the autonomy to the authorities in Negros Oriental, which was the seat of the provincial government at that time, the old Talingting village was part of the Municipality of Larena. The townfolks who would like to separate from the mother town.

The committee which was composed of prominent people in the village, was headed by the late Rafael Maglangit who lost no time in bringing the matter to the authorities in Negros Oriental. A representation was made in the Philippine Legislature. Finally, in April 1924, the municipality of Enrique Villanueva was inaugurated. It comprised the territory of the whole village of Talingting, from Lotloton in the south to Bitaug in the north, a total of 14 barangays in all.

This year the historian of the family of Enrique Teves Villanueva of Bais City Negros Oriental was the guest of honor and charter’s day speaker in the person of Josefino “Penn “Larena Jr the grandson of Florenda Villanueva Larena the second daughter of the LATE Governor. Larena spoke to almost

300 people including the LGU officials, Vice Mayor, Leonardo P. Paculba with the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Department of Education. National government agencies, Youth Sector, Senior Citizens and the religious sector 
.
The great story of Enrique Cayetano Teves Villanueva who was the responsible person making a barrio to town with whom the town was named after him. 

He is so lucky to be a member of the illustrious political clans of Negros Oriental namely Villanuevas, Pinili, Teveses, Regis, Villamil and Gonzales . 

He became the fourth Governor of Negros Oriental & Siquijor from 1916 to 1925, one of his elder brother Vicente Teves Villanueva was appointed a Military Governor of the island. Other brothers who also serving as the Governors and Congressmen “ Lolo bindoy”, Guillermo and Praxedes Daniel .In the list of Governors of the Province of Negros Oriental his nephews, AtilanoTeves Villegas,

Julian Lajato Teves, 
Lorenzo G. Teves, Serafin Lajato Teves, William Villanueva. Villegas, Herminio G. Teves, Jose M. Romero, and Alberto Villanueva Furbeyre follow his footsteps in Public Service.

Now the town is fully developed in many ways from being the most awarded marine sanctuary in the province, second outstanding LCC delivery, most outstanding municipality during the children game activity conducted by the National Sports Commission and the best health project for the people of the town.

Lolo Eking is a man of dignity and good values. Family, Christ-centered, honest and respectful to others are the good values that were past on to generation and generation in the family.His legacy will leave on and dedication just to his fellow men and true to his aims & ends.
