The Story of Dumaguete
The week-long celebration will begin on September 20 to 30, 2019 . Dumaguete is known
as” City of Gentle People” beacause of the hospitality in how the people of
Dumaguete treat their visitors. From a
derived Visayan phrase “ Pakig Sandurot” which
means to join in, the Sandurot
Festival was created. The first event that was held at the Rizal Boulevard is
the Panghimamat 2019 which means that we, Dumaguetenos always have a warn
welcome of the neighboring towns, islands and other countries to our Beloved
city.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo leads the opening of the 31st
Sandurot Festival ; it was also attended by other local officials of Dumaguete
City, Vice Governor Dr.Mark Macias, Board
Member Mariant E. Villegas, Provincial Tourism Officer Myla Mae B.
Abellana, Dr. Nicole Elman ,Councilor Lani Ramon,Penn T. Larena our Historian
from Dumaguete City Festival and Arts Society and many more that witnessed the
opening event of Paghimamat 2019. Pasigarbo ( Streetdancing ) and Pasundayag ( Showdown)
attended and witnessed the event, as well as international guests.

The event held a fantastic events original Dumaguete music with local artists, Local Film Festival ,A
capella composition, a farmer’s Market, Budbud Gabi cooking Contest ,Local food
festival, Terracotta Sculptures, Traditional Children’s Games, Consumer Fun
,Public Lecture-Dance Concerts and Photography contest .
The performers performed a wonderful dramatic dance shows
the Visayan goddess that are very grateful,and the different foreign countries
who visited the Philippines andespecially to our
city,Spaniards,Americans,Chinese and many more. Each country was introduced on
what culture they bring and influence to us.It shows the unity to all the
neighboring countries that they are very welcome to visit our mother.
Sandurot Festival is one of the wonderful events here in
Dumaguete City which shows that we Dumaguetenos are truly well cultured and
hospitable and gentle people.
