  Eddie Sinco Romero, a national artist for film and broadcast arts, celebrated his 100th birthday on behalf of the people of Dumaguete and the Province of  Negros Oriental . The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Foundation University, Silliman University Culture and Arts Council,National Museum of the Philippines Dumaguete and the City Government of Dumaguete collaborated to arrange the event, which honored Romero's significant contributions to Philippine cinema.  Silliman University (SU) held its 9th Floral Offering Ceremony on August 9, 2024, in honor of Dr. David Sutherland Hibbard and Mrs. Laura Hibbard, the couple who founded Silliman Institute in 1901. The event, organized by the SU Elementary School of the College of Education, was a significant part of the annual Founders Day celebration and took place at the statue of Dr. David Sutherland Hibbard in front of Hibbard Hall.
